How-To

Have the app call for help if you can't

Crash detection is on by default and only runs while a drive is recording. It asks you first, because a false positive that costs one tap is a feature people leave on, and one that calls someone is a feature people switch off.

Steps

  1. Check it's on
Settings → Crash Detection. It ships enabled.
  2. Set up a circle to notify
An alert goes to your Family Circle, so there has to be one with someone in it. Without that, there is nobody to tell.
  3. Record your drives
Detection runs only while a drive is recording — it is not a background service listening all day, which is what would eat your battery.
  4. Know what happens
On a probable impact followed by a stop, the screen asks if you're all right with a countdown. One tap cancels. If nobody answers, your circle gets your position.

Worth knowing

  • It alerts your circle, not emergency services. It is not a replacement for a 911 call or a satellite messenger.
  • You can also raise an alert by hand from the Community tab, which is the right tool for a breakdown rather than a crash.
