See where everyone is without opening the app
The widget shows each person in your circle with their emoji, their name, the town they are in and how long ago that was. Whoever is moving comes first, so a glance answers the question you actually had.
Before you start
- A Family Circle with at least one other person in it
Steps
-
Check it's switched on
Settings → Family Circle Widget. It ships on. Switching it off empties the widget and removes the stored positions straight away. -
Add it to the home screen
Touch and hold an empty part of the home screen, tap + in the corner, search for NavGPS and choose the medium Family Circle widget. -
Read it
Up to six people, two columns: emoji, name, the town they are in, and how long ago. A small car marks anyone moving. With more than six in the circle, the extra count is shown in the corner.
Worth knowing
- It shows the town, not the street. That is deliberate — iOS only lets a widget update every so often, and a stale town is still true where a stale address would not be.
- Whoever is moving sorts first, then whoever reported most recently. That is what decides who makes the list when a circle is larger than six.
- It is a home screen widget rather than a lock screen one. Lock screen widgets are about three lines tall and render in grey, which would lose both the sixth person and everyone's emoji.
